Photopolymer Etching

The photogravure, or photopolymer etching, process is the mechanism I use for printing my photographic work. I use it because it is a physical, mechanical and hands-on process that requires skill, concentration and a great deal of attention to detail. I adopted it to complement my analogue, film-based photography practice. The prints have a sublime and velvety three dimensional quality about them that has depth, texture and structure.

I have prints for sale and below you can see a few examples of my work.

I undertake a limited number of bespoke commissions from personal photographs, drawings or other source images. Please get in touch to discuss availability, format, paper and finish.

I run occasional small group workshops (typically just four people) at Birmingham Printmakers in which participants make and print a number of plates from their own images. You can browse current opportunities here.

Get in touch if you have any questions and we can have a chat; I love sharing what I do and how I do it.
